06/20/2024 | General, Compliance
RICHMOND, Va. — On Tuesday, June 18, Richmond Athletics hosted the first annual "Virginia Compliance Summit" in the Millhiser Auditorium. Senior Compliance administrators from across the state gathered including representatives from Virginia Tech, James Madison, George Mason, Liberty, VCU, Old Dominion, William & Mary, Longwood, Radford, VMI and the University of Richmond.
The event served as an opportunity to engage with and learn from colleagues in Virginia. "We continue to focus on and are committed to rules compliance in an ever-changing legal and regulatory environment," Associate A.D. for Compliance, Mark Stanton said. "We recognize the similarity in our circumstances statewide and understand rules compliance is a collective effort."
The event was organized by Associate Athletics Director for Governance and Compliance at James Madison, Stephen LaPorta and reviewed a range of issues including sports wagering, name, image and likeness, Virginia law and the transfer space. The group intends to make this an annual event, hosted by the University of Richmond each summer.
