Spiders Celebrate Seniors With Dominant Win over St. Bonaventure

Richmond, Va. – The University of Richmond Men's Lacrosse team cruised to a 26-10 victory over St. Bonaventure during Senior Day on Saturday.
The Spiders came out swinging as the benches were cleared and everyone got involved. The game featured a single-game program record 26 goals and the seventh-most assists in a single game in program history. Richmond's 39 points tallied on Saturday are tied for the most-ever in a game for the Spiders.
Richmond goals were scored by Henry Alpaugh with four, Aidan O'Neil (2 assists) with three, Luke Grayum (2 assists), Jake Averna (2 assists), Dalton Young and Joe Sheridan (assist) with two each, while Ryan Spilman (assist), Lance Madonna (assist), Kieran Laurie (assist), Leo Caine, Derrek Madonna, Matt Civitella, Mitch Pfeiffer, Tommy Stull, Jeff Nugent, Max Merklinger and Brendan Murphy with one apiece. Xander Welty and Brandon Smith each added assists as well.
It was a day of firsts as Randolph-Macon grad transfers Averna and Smith secured their first points in a Richmond jersey, while Murphy, Laurie and Civitella picked up their first points of the season. Freshman Caine scored his first collegiate goal.
With his first goal of the day, senior Young recorded his 100th collegiate goal, becoming just the fourth Spider to ever pull off the feat.
The Spiders took control early and never looked back, outshooting the Bonnies 57-34 and scooping 39 ground balls to their 23. Richmond used all three face off specialists in Jared Chenoy (15-24), Trent Grainger (5-10) and Anthony DiCenso (4-6) to help Richmond maintain possession with 24-of-40 face offs won.
Richmond was a perfect 5-for-5 on extra-man opportunities and went 18-for-20 on clears.
Up next, the Spiders host the inaugural Atlantic 10 Men's Lacrosse Championship at Robins Stadium May 4th and 6th. Richmond, who posted a 9-4 (4-1) regular season record, has earned the No. 2 seed in the championships and will take on No. 3 UMass at 8:00 on Thursday, May 4 at Robins Stadium.
