
Miano, Taranov go Undefeated in Singles at UNCG Invite

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Richmond men's tennis team opened the fall 2022 season this past weekend at the UNC Greensboro Fall Invitational. Richmond faced Gardner-Webb, James Madison, and UNCG in doubles action Friday, Campbell and Presbyterian in singles play Saturday, and UNC Asheville in singles action Sunday.
Junior Sebastian Miano and freshman Mark Taranov each went 3-0 in singles action on the weekend. Miano defeated Presbyterian's Austin Skoog 6-2, 6-2, Campbell's Robin Angles 6-0, 6-3, and UNC Asheville's Chester Wickwire 6-2, 6-0.
Taranov's Spider debut weekend included wins over Presbyterian's Daniel Martens 7-6(4) and Campbell's Will Thompson 6-2, 6-4.
In doubles action Friday, the Spiders went 2-2 against Gardner-Webb, 3-1 against UNCG, and 2-2 against James Madison. In singles Saturday, Richmond went 6-2 against Campbell and 4-4 against Presbyterian. The Spiders closed out the weekend going 4-4 in singles against UNC Ashveville Sunday.
Up next, the Spiders head to Elon for the Elon Fall Invite Sept. 23-25.
