Junior Red Event Hosted by The Country Club of Virginia, Sponsored by CoStar Group
RICHMOND, Va. - The CoStar Group sponsored a networking and etiquette training dinner for junior student-athletes, held at the Country Club of Virginia Monday evening.
The goal was to help athletes learn essential skills when it comes to proper etiquette, as well as how to interact and carry themselves in a networking or interview situations.
Â
The evening began with a presentation over a two-course meal presented by Coordinator for Student-Athlete Success, R.D. Montgomery and University Director of Career Development, Leslie Stevenson. Â
"It's important for our athletes to develop these skills because employers are looking for student-athletes to join their organizations and they need to know how to present themselves in networking situations," said Montgomery. "Especially with the exposure they get to alumni that have the ability to help them in their career search, it's important that they are able to take advantage of those opportunities."
Following the dinner portion of the night there was an opportunity for student-athletes to practice the skills they learned over a "social dessert" held in an adjacent ballroom. Athletes had a chance to practice the power of networking with all the guests in attendance.
Â
Representatives from several different branches of the CoStar Group were present, as well as many Spider athletics alumni who are succeeding in their post-college careers.
Â
"We have some very impressive alumni and for them to come back and share their experiences with our current student athletes is invaluable," Montgomery said. "I can talk about what employers are looking for or how the transition from college to career will go, but it hits a little different when it comes from someone that stood in their shoes not too many years ago and has seen success in their respective field."
Â
This is an annual event held by Spider Champions, whose long-term goal is to build champion leaders, setting student-athletes up for the most success after their four years with Richmond.
