
Spiders Lose Close Match To UNC-W

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond men's tennis team lost a one-point match today to UNC-Wilmington, 4-3. The Spiders earned one win in doubles play and took three-of-six matches in singles action to earn their three points overall in the match. Michael Sommer, William Minter and David Berry all earned wins as individuals in the match.
Although Richmond won half the matches in singles action, UNC-W's two wins in doubles play gave them the 4-3 victory over the Spiders. David Berry and Sami Belakhlef teamed up to earn the Spiders' lone win in doubles play taking down Ford/Bertie in a 8-5 decision.
Michael Sommer and David Berry both came from behind to earn wins for the Spiders in singles action against the Seahawks. Sommer was down, 6-4 after the first set but rallied to take the match, winning 6-3, 6-4 in the last two sets.
Berry dominated the first set, 6-1 but fell 6-1 in the second set against Ford. In the last set, Berry earned the match with a 6-4 set to earn the Spiders' third win in singles play.
Richmond will return to action Sunday, March 30 to host UNC-Greensboro for a 1 p.m. ET match at the University of Richmond Tennis Complex. Saturday's match against Temple has been cancelled.
