Track & Field Completes Indoor Season at Atlantic 10 Championships.

KINGSTON, R.I. - Led by junior All-Atlantic 10 honoree Ruth Chege, the University of Richmond women's track & field team finished third at its inaugural Atlantic 10 indoor track & field championships, held in Kingston, R.I. The men's team finished seventh.
Chege, who won the 3,000 meters in 9:52.81, and her teammates finished just one point shy of second-place La Salle. Rhode Island repeated as A-10 champs in both the men and women's meets.
The Spiders earned second place in three individual events and one relay race. Michele Macdonnel was the runner-up in the 500 meters after finishing the race in 1:19.02, while the 4x800 meter relay team finished second in 9:16.63.
Placing second in the field events were Ashley Bell in the triple jump (37'10.75") and Rachel Shrewsbury in the shot (45'07").
The women's team was also helped by third-place finishes from Margaret Banks in the 400 meters (59.25), Sarah Taylor in the 5,000 meters (17:58.53) and Diane Schreiber in the weight throw (48'04.50").
On the men's side, three individuals who have been competing well all season, earned third-place finishes for the Spiders.
Senior David Blanchard crossed the line third with a 4:19.21 mile. In the high jump, Jeff Wilburn finished third when he cleared the bar at 6'07". The third male who earned points for the Spiders was Justin McElfish in the shot put. He heaved the shot 49'07" for third place.
The Atlantic 10 Championships marks the conclusion of the indoor season. The Spiders begin the outdoor season on March 16 at the Coastal Carolina Shamrock Invitational in Conway, S.C.
