UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Rhode Island junior forward Heather Kasparek netted the game-winner with less than a minute remaining in the game to give the visiting Rams a 1-0 win over the Richmond Spiders in women's college soccer action on Sunday afternoon. The Rams improve to 10-5-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the Atlantic 10 while the Spiders drop to 7-8-1, 6-3-0 in the conference.
The game appeared headed to overtime when senior midfielder Catherine Zanni sent a long cross from the far side to Kasparek on the near side. The senior forward took the pass and sprinted downfield where she fired from 10 yards out into the left corner of the net past diving Richmond keeper Kristen Samhuel (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill).
The Spiders hit the road next weekend for two crucial Atlantic 10 contests, playing at St. Bonaventure on Friday and against Duquesne on Sunday.
