NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 25-ranked University of Richmond women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Old Dominion in Colonial Athletic Association action today at ODU Soccer Stadium.
The Spiders conclude the regular season with a 12-6-0 overall record and match the same winning percentage that the 1997 team finished with (.650, 13-7-0) during the regular season. In addition, Richmond capped conference play with a program best-ever 6-2-0 league mark. The Spiders, who finished in a three-way tie atop the regular season standings with William & Mary (6-2-0) and George Mason (6-2-0), await a possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Meanwhile, the Lady Monarchs improve to 13-7-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the CAA.
Old Dominion freshman forward Diane Baucom provided the game-winning strike, blasting in a shot just inside the far post at the 37:51 mark. Despite having scoring opportunities - the Spiders outshot Old Dominion, 14-9 - Richmond sustained its sixth one-goal loss of the season.
Spider junior goalkeeper Kristen Samuhel (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) made four stops. Lady Monarch net-minder Tonya Dedmond posted eight saves and recorded her second shutout of the season.
