GREENVILLE, N.C. - University of Richmond freshman midfielder Molly Rettig (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored two goals and sophomore forward Anne Rieser (Middletown, md./Middletown) added another, helping the Spiders to claim a 3-0 victory over East Carolina this afternoon. Rieser opened the scoring in the seventh minute. She raced up the right side of the field, controlled a pass from freshman back Edda Gardarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/Briedholti) and dented the back of the net, beating ECU' keeper Brooke Crews (seven saves) to the near post. The two teams' played on even terms until the 79:39 mark when Rettig registered her first collegiate goal, scoring off of an assist from second-year halfback Natalie Stallings (Poquoson, Va./Poquoson). Less than one minute later, Rettig delivered her second goal of the contest, trickling in a shot from inside the penalty area.
Newcomers have stepped up at critical moments for the Spiders this season, accounting for four of the team's last five goals, including the two freshman midfielder Jessie Marino (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) recorded in Sunday's 2-1 overtime win versus Rutgers.
