Newton "Bucky" Jacobs

"Bucky" Jacobs was a two-sport standout during the mid 1930's. A former captain and All-State forward on Richmond's 1936-37 basketball team, he is best remembered for his exploits on the baseball diamond. He posted a lifetime 19-1 record with an 18-game win streak and three no-hitters; all current Richmond records. Bucky holds Richmond's record for single game (20) strikeouts and also held the record for most strikeouts in a season (98) until it was broken in 1994. He played in 20 basketball games in 1936, had 60 field goals, 46 free throws, scored 166 points and averaged 8.3 points a game. In 1936-37 he was named to the First Team all-state.
