Michael Perry was an All-American men's basketball player from 1977-81. He led the team in scoring during each of his four seasons as a Spider. Perry was the first Spider to score more than 2,000 career points and was second on Richmond's career scoring list with 2,145 points and fifth with 738 career rebounds. Perry averaged over 36 minutes per game during his career. He ranked 17th in the nation in scoring (22.8 ppg) and field goal percentage (61.7%) during his senior season. Perry, a three-time team captain, was selected to seven all tournament teams. He went on to coach at Virginia Union, Richmond, Georgia State and East Carolina.
